Release Notes

In Version 2 I have updated quite a few things in order to simplify some of the logic and code needed. Here is a quick list of the changes. Documentation and a walkthrough will be coming soon.

Change List
  • Service Model has been collapsed into just the View Model
  • Batch loading deprecated
    • Please move your logic to the use of Composition on your Domain Service.
    • This provides fewer round-trips, and leverages the functionality already in RIA Services.
  • Design Data class simplified to just return Entity Objects (you can still return a complete new Entity Set, or Entity List if you want)
  • View Model now includes a RegisterOperation function to log operations that are executing and update the BusyMessage easily
  • IsBusy management is included with ViewModel base class
  • ViewModel Error Handling of Operation Errors
    • now it returns the operation with the error, not just the exception
    • the custom error handler is always called on the UI thread
  • snippets (several)
    • snippets are renamed to "vm..." not "slvm...." (planning on expanding to add more than just silverlight support for the toolkit)
    • generic command snippet added
    • new vmcollectionview snippet added
    • new vmentitylist snippet added to quickly add EntityLists (very useful for lookup type data)
    • vmloaddata snippet added (use this to setup command to execute operations against your DomainService
    • new viewhtmlpageclose snippet added (use this in your view to get notification of when user tries to close the page, not your application)

Right now install is manual the .zip file includes:
  • compiled DLL (to reference in your SL project)
  • updated item templates (Design & View Model)
  • updated snippets
